What does a Caprilli test ask me to do?
Read the course cues
The developer’s example shows Canter and Trot signs beside low obstacles, with Round 1/2 and a running timer. Use the requested gait to plan the next transition, then handle the obstacle. Those values illustrate the interface; they are not a required time or a promise that every course has two rounds.

When should I change gait?
In an October 23 community discussion, players describe the transition point around the boundary between the current and next gait panels, using the rider’s foot or the end of the current panel as a visual reference. Treat that as a practice cue, not a confirmed scoring window. Later replies disagree about whether a red flash is the cue or a sign of mistiming.

Why the red-flash advice remains uncertain
An October 27 reply suggests waiting until red feedback or the next panel. A November 4 player instead places the horse’s belly over the boundary between the two markers and says this avoids red feedback. These are conflicting player observations, not developer rules. Do not use a red flash alone to decide whether your transition succeeded.

A short practice checklist
Read the requested gait, watch the boundary between gait panels, attempt the transition, and record its feedback separately from the jump result. Repeat on the same test before comparing results across disciplines. This is a suggested observation workflow; exact penalty weights, entry thresholds and prize tables are not established by the cited material.

Keep a discipline-specific record
Save the test name, requested gait, transition feedback, obstacle result and any displayed penalty in the training tracker. Compare repeated attempts on the same test. Entry requirements, numerical penalty weights, unlock conditions and prizes remain unknown; show-jumping scoring must not be assumed to apply.
